Leader in Hospitality Sustainability

In February of 2020, USC Hotel received our Green Seal certification. With USC undertaking a daring initiative to greatly reduce waste, USC has emerged as a leader in hospitality sustainability by becoming the first university-owned lodging in all of California to receive a Green Seal Certification.

Sustainability Metrics we have in place at USC Hotel

  • Switched to nontoxic, biodegradable cleaning products
  • Switched all fixtures to LED lights
  • Installed energy-efficient washers and dryers
  • Installed new plumbing fixtures and 720 custom calibrated flow limiters to cut water use. As of early 2021, we saved over a million gallons of water
  • Diverted over 30 tons of waste from landfills
  • Composted over 5,000 lbs of food waste
  • Implemented over 250,000 single-use amenity bottles
  • Donated $50,000 in linens and terry
  • Became "zero-waste" events experts
  • In 2021, USC Hotel received the prestigious LADWP Leadership Water Conservation Award

We want to encourage USC departments and units to book zero-waste events, and our events team, both on campus and at the hotel, are committed to being industry leaders in this arena. Thanks to the visionary guidance of President Folt and our sustainability officers and employees, USC has never been greener.

USC Building a Greener World

At USC Hotel, we are continually reviewing our sustainability practices to ensure they are effective. We strive to be up-to-date on the newest advancements in green practices so that alongside the University, we can be leaders in the sustainability space.
